Giving Back — Disaster Relief
Not Out of Danger
I'm returning from a long blog hiatus with a gentle plea to please give whatever you can to help the wildlife that has been deeply affected by the natural disasters in Australia. First the draught, then the raging fires, and now extreme rains are causing floods. Here are a few amazing organizations dedicated to that cause:• WIRES (NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc.) has been rescuing and caring for wildlife for over 30 years and is the largest wildlife rescue organization in Australia. They currently have 3,000 volunteers in 28 branches, and have a dedicated Rescue Office that operates 365 days a year...
Loss
Our donation this month goes to Direct Relief, one of the many admirable charities helping those affected by the devastating wildfires in California. I know there are several charities involved in this huge rescue effort, but I especially admire that Direct Relief is fully transparent about where the donated funds go: Direct Relief will use all contributions designated for the California wildfires solely for relief and recovery efforts related to the California wildfires. Direct Relief’s donation policy includes no fine print, disclaimer, or qualification. Direct Relief is in close communication with state, county and local health officials about medical needs that may...
Rescue Efforts
Chicago may have its hot, humid summers and cold, bitter winters but it's pretty safe from devastating natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and earthquakes. That's a good thing and I'm grateful. I cannot imagine having to evacuate my home, or have no home to come back to, or be separated from loved ones during these crises. My heart goes out to everyone affected by Florence and I sincerely hope you're finding some level of comfort and/or normalcy at this point. Since I have a soft spot for animals and pets, I pray especially hard for their well-being before, during and after these...
More Hurricane Woes
First Texas, then Florida, Puerto Rico and other parts of the Caribbean. Our hearts go out to everyone effected by these disasters, but we are especially sensitive to the animals and pets who are in need of assistance. So our September donation goes to Guardians of Rescue, who are working tirelessly to bring aid and relief to our furry friends in these areas.
